Churchill & Sustainability

As a business with over 225 years of heritage, Churchill’s commitment to a sustainable future has been an integral part of our company ethos for generations. Our past continues to shape our future; as we evolve, grow and innovate we’re able to draw on a rich history of expertise to continuously reduce our impact on the planet, support our people and improve our UK made products.

Actions speak louder than words when it comes to a commitment to sustainability. There are a number of highlights in the sustainability journey so far including:

  • MADE IN UK: A UK made product is always better than a product made far away with a large carbon footprint from transportation
  • LOCAL CLAY MATERIALS: Churchill’s raw clay materials are sourced from a responsible supplier within the UK
  • KILN EFFICIENCES: Continuous improvement and kiln efficiences while actively trialling alternative fuels
  • SOLAR POWER: Since 2019 significant investment has been made in solar energy and there are now over 5100 panels onsite (beginning of 2025 counting!), and plans for more
  • WASTE REDUCTION: 100% of the dry waste clay leftover from the manufacturing process is recycled and any over-sprayed glaze is cleaned and reused.
  • ONCE FIRING: Most ceramics are fired twice, but Churchill have been once firing their cups and small bowls since 1981
  • DECABONISATION IN ACTION AWARE: Churchill won the 2023 UK Ceramics award in recognition of their proactive approach to decarbonisation
  • RECYCLED PACKAGNG: 100% recyclable packaging means Churchill do not pass on any non-recyclables to their customers
  • CONTINUOUS INVESTMENT: Since the early 2010’s Churchill China have invested over £26million in manufacturing technology and efficiencies
  • INVESTMENT IN PEOPLE: Churchill believe in supporting the individual development of each member of our talented workforce, giving every employee the chance to thrive.
